Introduction

ExplainingComputers.com is a free online resource for anybody who needs a largely non-technical overview of personal and cloud computing and its application in the modern world.

This site is written by Christopher Barnatt, Associate Professor of Computing and Future Studies in Nottingham University Business School, and the author of A Brief Guide to Cloud Computing, 25 Things You Need to Know About the Future and five other books on computing and future studies.

All content provided on this site is free for personal and educational use. Many topics are also supported by the ExplainingComputers.com YouTube channel. For more information on the copyright and terms of use of this website, please click here.

The presentation of this website is pretty basic, with some of the pages longer than would be considered good practice by many web designers. However, because this site is effectively an online textbook, no apology is made for this. All sections could have been split into multiple webpages. Though, as this is really a site to be read rather than browsed (and which may on occasion be printed!), you'll hopefully find it handy not having each section sub-divided into lots of smaller pages.

If you are seeking information on totally cutting-edge computing and technology development and application, as well as its wider impact, you may also like to visit ExplainingTheFuture.com.
